take it off

Gym Class Heroes, 'Clothes Off'

This song is ok - of course it rips off the hook from a song thats far to famous for me to wiki - but i post the video here for the brief glimpse of my favourite band Panic! At The Disco, apprently their new tracks wont be out untill next year now... awwww

Saturday Review: Amerie / Because I Love It

Amerie, Because I Love It

I wanted to review something new but suddenly Amerie's album has been given a second life. Its the perfect album for cycling around Osaka on a deathly humid afternoon, its lazy and luscious, as predicted by weather woman Amerie on the intro track 'Forecast'. If your weather isn't so hot then take heed that the sun will come out...

Amerie's vocals tend to sway dangerously close to both hushed and shrill often in the same lyric, but its a nice change to have a pop/ r'n'b album that isn't displaying its vocals upfront and enhanced instead keeping things more smooth soulful, intertwining the vocal with the production. I think that none of the songs have the immediacy of 'One Thing' but as an album its pretty cohesive with all the songs gel nicely with one another, without the need to reinvent on every track.

This could have the disadvantage of making the tracks indistinguishable but each song is crafted around a decent hook and this makes it a perfect singalong pop album, even if it isn't gonna push things forward to much. New Single is 'Gotta Work' and its the biggest sound on the recoord but theres still a few tracks hidden amongst this that could make this album a mainstay all summer.

no more december?

Kelly Clarkson, 'Don't Waste Your Time', My December
and Shayne Ward, 'If its OK with You'
After some great reviews -including mine- it seems Kelly Clarkson's, My December is soon to be put to bed, so that she can once more become Clive Davis' bitch and pump out some Max Martin tunes... If it turns out anything like this then I'll lose all respect i had for Kelly sticking up for her music.

This is the rumoured new single... and its a good representation of the album i think, i love its line 'DWYT on me my friend, friend what does that even mean!"

queen of my dessert

Bat For Lashes, 'Prescilla', Fur and Gold

While pop takes a snooze this summer, add some water to the barren landscape with this, its my new favourite song. I feel bad now for dissing the mercury prize cos this albums is amazing. The album song quality is much better... but i love the lyrics and the vocals of this girl are amazing, and also very humouress in a Kate Bush way, and not in a Kate Nash saying bittah way.

what my new dougie hair will one day become

Its my blog and i can post as many pics of him as i want.

Newsround

So...

As we all calm down about Girl's Alouds' new single...

We gear up for the Sugababe's latest that's being teased before us and i predict will be heard soon.

A song that can be heard now is 'Modern Timing' by one miss Roisin Murphy...get it clicking...over there
It has an awful intro and its not as good as 'overpowered' and it may or may not be an album track.
A musical overhaul has been undertaken on my ipod... so expect to here new things soon from the likes of Chungking / Bat For Lashes / The Veronicas and Sara Bareilles.

push it real good

Sia, 'Buttons'

I defy anyone to start watching this video, and be able to take their eyes from it for a second... perfectly allowing for the song to seep into your subconscious...

Is she hot?

JoJo, 'Beautiful Girl'

JoJo's original / retake / callback of Sean Kingstons annoying vocal on this track -yes the one Popjustice raved about- is now available for free and legal download on her myspace.

I went to the beach today... so thats your lot. Don't have ur fill all at once.

Retro Tuesday: Rachel Stevens

Rachel Stevens, 'Negotiate With Love'

I was never a fan of Rachel Stevens; as many have noted before she lacked any personality, a vital component for a popstar. Incessantly though, her album Come and Get It, is lauded as the work of pop genius, and when there is a shortage of new music its nice to discover what her fans were raving about all along... the album is near to perfection. Rachel's voice is so clear -and i want to say versatile but she actually sounds a lot like a lot of other artists- sad to say the video is a bit of a distraction... but here it is.

Go and Get It

Quite a busy week for single release...

Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own
Arcade Fire - No Cars Go (7”)
BWO - Chariots Of Fire
Dragonette - Take It Like A Man*
Feist - 1234*

High School Musical - What Time Is It
Jack Savoretti - Dr Frankenstein*
Katharine McPhee - Over It
Lumidee Ft Pitbull - Crazy
Shiny Toy Guns - Don’t Cry Out*

*songs i think should be highly placed on the sales chart...but perhaps wont because we've been listening to them for months already... but then how does that account for Rihanna being the new Whitney?

Rant! No No No...

After living through my first blogging weekend with a new leaked track from an eagerly awaited album, i cant help seeing flaws in the Record Sales Industry more clearly than ever.

After more than 60 plays, in just two days, on my itunes- ive overdosed on it and this song has gone into temporary retirement; albeit only until the video appears. That could be later this week. But thats still 5weeks of solid promotion before it hits the shops.
It's allready had a Radio1 exclusive first play and a T4 on the Beach live showcase.
In today's world all thats left is a slot on Loose Women and a slow climb to the many mtvstyle charts.
All my talk about it not being the most immediate track- perhaps warrent it needing to imbed in our consciousness for a month untill they open the starting gates and we all rush to buy it.
However, fans of the Girl's in question have been wanting a track for months, and had sales started this weekend im sure we'd have all payed the going rate and added to both the sales and buzz of this pop single. In a world where making money relies upon supply and demand then surely industry people need to recongise the intesnity of demand for this track will never be higher than it was this weekend.
I think we need all soon to be released songs available to buy the moment their ready for consumption- thats not to say they should hastilly find themselves rushed toward us; just that they should be initially published with all accompanying artwork and videos in sync.
At the moment internet fans are just seen as the initial tier of pop consumption and are expected to act as a catlyst for creating buzz around a track for it to pass to the trogs using print and traditonal media. That means our views, while important, are secondary to the moneymakers, they turn a blind eye to our fanaticism for thier bands becuase while we possess illegal downloads were also naive enough to go and support our favourite bands upon physical release as well- feeding us with remixes and b-sides to justify our wait in promotions limbo to appease our download guilt.
Im sure if the track in question was made available to buy - even retaining the one week ahead online release- that is allready accepted practice- then the demand for this track would have ensured a bigger impact for the track than whatever positon and sales record it will eventually amass.

another day another nelly video

Nelly Furtado, 'Do It' Loose

I like this as an album track not sure if its single worthy...
Its definalty not worth some of the disses its been getting.

Baby we can make it allright...

Robyn and Kleerup 'With Every Heartbeat' Robyn

This is still one of the best tracks of the year, I can't believe its not yet released but deserves to be number one. Robyn is one of the best albums this year fullstop and if there had to be more words after that fullstop id say ...she also has a cool haircut that id be tempted to try was i not aping Dougie McFly this week.

Look and listen

Remi Nicole, Go Mr Sunshine

this is the second song form this girl i like.
needless to say its the perfect summer record.

Loosely referential headline

Nelly Furtado, 'In God's Hands' Loose

Nelly is still flogging Loose, and fair play it is the best album of last year. So many singles and so many countries to be number one in. I think her future work is now highly anticipated- ive always liked her albums but the last one really upped the game, so it'll be interesting if she takes her newfound popularity and uses it to back the type of music she preferred in the past. Having said that though, this single shows that her last album is far from Nelly Selling out and doing a complete makeover, deepdown this album offers a really natural progression- albeit one that skipped a few years along the way and sounds ahead of its time- I remember on the album sleeve it says there may be a different sound but its the same message within Nelly's work, and this single showcases that well.

Never enough Zach

High School Musical, 'What Time Is It?'

The first movie was such a disappointment but somehow became a movie so bad its good in a so bad its good kinda way. No doubt i'll be renting a copy of number two still.
